A little bit of Holland, just a few minutes from LA.
Solvang is a great city for a weekend road trip from anywhere in Southern California. It's just off the Pacific Coast Highway, close to Ventura, nestled out in the coastal mountain range. Solvang is modeled after a small Dutch village, with architecture and a shopping district that borrows heavily from Holland.

Solvang has a very romantic, sleepy, small-town atmosphere, so it's great for a romantic getaway with your spouse or SO. There are some great hotels too, one of which is the Petersen Village Inn, a beautiful place with huge rooms open on to a tree-lined courtyard filled with shops and a little cafe, and big beds with feather pillows :)

There's a lot of shopping to be done there, as well as plenty of great German and Dutch food to be had; a great German bakery, and a windmill that's the centerpiece of the downtown shopping district, with a shop in its base that sells wines and cheeses from all over the world.
